Soup Kitchen

Feeding those who are hungry is what our Soup Kitchen ministry is about. We do this at St. John’s United Methodist Church on the 2nd Saturday of most months, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. The volunteers prepare and serve a hot meal and a goody bag with snacks.

Congregational Service Teams

It takes a lot of volunteers to make sure things run smoothly at The Church of the River. Some require just a little bit of your time on Sundays, and other duties can be spread out over different days. Here are just a few ways you can be a "helpful hero" and serve the congregation:

  • Greeters--welcome churchgoers and assist visitors
  • Coffee Hour Host--make coffee and tea and play barista in our fellowship hall
  • Ushers--prep the sanctuary, greet worshippers,  and receive and count the offering
  • A/V Team--run or assist the livestream video broadcast
  • Hospitality--help set up, serve, and clean up during social events
  • Event Liaison--assist with weddings and memorial services
  • Facilities Upkeep--assist with minor repairs, cleaning, and handyman jobs
  • Gardening--maintain flower beds and other small landscaping tasks
  • Care Committee--respond to needs of church members

Family Ministry

If you enjoy spending time with children, you'll love volunteering in our Faith Development classrooms. Whether it's holding the babies in the nursery, or hanging out with the high school group, you're sure to have a rewarding experience. Committments can range from every week to once a month, or even just "as needed."  We also need volunteers to serve on the Family Ministry team to help guide our Faith Development programs and staff.
