Feeding those who are hungry is what our Soup Kitchen ministry is about. We do this at St. John’s United Methodist Church on the 2nd Saturday of most months, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. The volunteers prepare and serve a hot meal and a goody bag with snacks.
We're proud to be a charter member of MICAH (Memphis Interfaith Coalition for Action and Hope), a coalition of faith-based and community organizations working together to give a powerful voice for issues of social justice in Memphis. MICAH focuses on three main areas: Education Equity, Economic Equity, and Race and Class Equity in the justice system.

It takes a lot of volunteers to make sure things run smoothly at The Church of the River. Some require just a little bit of your time on Sundays, and other duties can be spread out over different days. Here are just a few ways you can be a "helpful hero" and serve the congregation:
If you enjoy spending time with children, you'll love volunteering in our Faith Development classrooms. Whether it's holding the babies in the nursery, or hanging out with the high school group, you're sure to have a rewarding experience. Committments can range from every week to once a month, or even just "as needed." We also need volunteers to serve on the Family Ministry team to help guide our Faith Development programs and staff.
